<p>Marcellus Gladden Gorin was born in about 1836 in Louisiana, Missouri, son of Bartley William Gorin and Mary Johnson.</p>
<p>Marcellus attended Westminster College in Fulton, MO, and received a Doctor of Divinity degree. In 1858 he married Joanna Knott, sister of Kentucky governor James Proctor Knott in Memphis, MO.  Marcellus and Joanna had seven children:</p>

<li>Josephine Gorin, born 1869 in Memphis, Missouri</li>
<li>Marcellus George Gorin, born February 28, 1871</li>
<li>Henry Jerome Gorin, born January 1880 in Memphis, Missouri</li>
</ul>
<p>Marcellus (often referred to as M. G. Gorin) began his career as a lawyer in Louisiana, MO.  He eventually became a Presbyterian Minister in Memphis, MO.  He then moved to St. Louis, MO and was minister of the North Presbyterian Church in 1890, living in the church with his wife.  The North Presbyterian Church is still standing today.</p>
<p>He later moved on to found the Cook Avenue Presbyterian Church, and lived in the church there as well.</p>

<p>Marcellus Gladden Gorin passed away on June 12th, 1903 at the age of 67, at his home in St. Louis, MO.  He died from pneumonia, his health having started to deteriorate several years earlier.</p>
