He was quite active in politics both in Georgia and in Alabama, and over time served as Sherriff, Justice of the Peace, Justice of the Inferior Court, and U. S. Marshall. He was also very active in several Baptist churches, and was considered to be an upstanding citizen.

Chambers County court house - photo courtesy of the Cobb Memorial and Chambers County ArchivesAt age 19, Britton Stamps married Polly Sanders (December 18th of 1810), and they had thirteen children.  Polly passed away in March of 1832, and shortly afterwards Britton married his second wife, Sarah Sanders (on August 7, 1832).  Britton and Sarah had 9 children, bringing the total up to 22 children.  After Sarah died Britton married Isabella Goldsmith.  Britton and Isabella did not have any children.

R. King was born about 1860 – probably in Maryland.  His father, Benjamin King, was born about 1830.  George married Mary Anne Miller (from Maryland) and they had five children:

  • James Guest King, born August 25th, 1882
  • Fannie McDowell King, born about 1891
  • Bessie Riley King, born about 1883
  • Mary Rebecca King, born about 1884
  • George Huntley King, Sr., born about 1886.  He died April 1960.

The 1900 US census shows George and Mary Anne living in Annapolis, Maryland with all five children.  Another census record from a year later shows James Guest King living with his grandmother Rebecca King, also in Annapolis.
